VPN or SVPN - What is the difference?

VPN’s today are largely insecure, most e-commerce applications rely upon on SSL VPN’s to create an encrypted tunnel between two endpoints - unfortunately there is no guarantee the connecting party is who they say they are regardless of entering a user ID and Password.

An SVPN however, takes care of Confidentiality, Authentication and Integrity of communications more effectively, resulting in much higher levels of security and privacy, typically it has been too expensive to achieve for most e-commerce sites but this is set to change in the near future.

Next time you connect to an online store to make a purchase there’s a 99% chance it is insecure and relying upon only a user ID and Password at best even though likely claiming ‘Our site is secure.’ - only an SVPN guarantees a reasonable level of security and you will be seeing more of them as the cost of hardware OTP (One Time Password) two-factor authentication devices drop.

The future of online security for a typical Internet user is much brighter.
